In April 2026 my mom, Ieva Luika-Hofrāte, passed away after a battle with serious illness, and I had to come to Latvia.
I was born in Latvia and lived in Scotland, and coming here I experienced a real culture shock.
Telling her story
My mom was a journalist and writer, a well-known voice on Latvijas Radio, where she created and hosted programmes such as “Dzirkstele”, “Tik un Tā” and “Ādams un Ieva”. She was also an editor of the TV3 talk show “Aina”, and in 2021 her first book was published.
While in Latvia, I wrote a press release about her and sent it to local newspapers. It got a lot of publicity in Latvian outlets, including:
- Diena – “Mūžībā aizgājusi Ieva Luika–Hofrāte”
- Santa.lv – “Mūžībā aizsaukta šova «Aina» redaktore un Latvijas Radio žurnāliste Ieva Luika-Hofrāte”
- Dzentlmenis.lv – “Mūžībā aizsaukta pazīstamā žurnāliste, rakstniece Ieva Luika-Hofrāte”
